Stand Alone Complex

this is going to be ongoing (and im going to keep bumping it because im fuckin workin here) as i continue to dredge, but some of these are too great to wait. almost all are from rubadubdubb's mediafire account (meaning...the 240 files they uploaded and hosted that got the site shut down, i think), the others are more recently from wearezero.net (formerly barney vs the dinosaur). the album ID3 tags list the respective site.

and we're off!

1. Chase & Status - Madhouse (Dead Money Remix)

what. the. fuck. i was all like 'oh yeah i know this fucker, but hell ive never had the single file, ive only had it in excision - shambhala 09'. then IT HAPPENED. this is my current favorite.

2. Graphics - I Need You

this sounds like SOASE when you start a new game as the advent and its just one planet and you are lucky enough to be in a blue-tinted galaxy and the game goes real slow for the first couple hours while you just kind of drift around in space discovering stuff. -step. (max let me know how apropos that is).

3. Tek-One - Bug

I AM THE SUPER MOTHER BUUUGGGGG. extra kudos if you recognize this picture. sale should.

4. Olive - Not Alone (Synamatix Remix)

this reminds me a lot of mt eden. its really goddamn pleasant to listen to, kind of trancey, what with the simple chords and girl vocals and repetition, and its so well put-together and strong that it just sounds perfectly constructed all the way through. it functions on relative simplicity, which is always refreshing. highly recommended.

5. Sigma - All Blue

im hesitant to say this, because im never really sure what actually qualifies as liquid DnB, but this sounds a little too aggressive to fit that. especially the two bass synth layers. i think otherwise itd fit, but again, im not sure. so...its poppy DnB? pretty melodic, sounds more like a dubstep remix thats been sped up with altered drums. im really botching this description. just listen to it.

6. Stagga - Robotomy

uggghh i kinda wanted to hate this song. buuut its pretty different. needless to say it probably wouldnt have made it on this list without the samples. and even with the samples, it's 'CHAAANGE PLACES!' that got me. for a lot of old, old reasons. anyway.

also gifs are already ruining my internetting (and with only 53 open tabs OMG DIS IS HELL), so its time for some statics.

7. Chase & Status - Eastern Jam (High Rankin Remix)

this one gets weird real quick. i dont know the original, so maybe not that weird, but whatever notes are crashing around have nothing to do with the intro key.

im heading for a mental blake-down! MD. coming this fall.

8. Axon - Mandolin

oof so im all for the venetian snares, duranduranduran, genus inkasso brand of psychotic breakcore, but this kind of thing is always nice to have. ive seen it produced with relative ease, but still the sheer amount of chaos wafting around is awe-inspiring. this is a lot like numbernin6 - beneath the boards kinda sounding but a bit quicker and with more drum layers, if you want a more apt description.

9. Netsky - Starlight

similar to the sigma song, really pretty melodic DnB. and upon googling the appropriate terms, as i should have done before, netsky is considered liquid drum and bass. so there you fucking go. i think this is my second favorite in this list. its super fast and rad and beautiful.

hey look, it's almost gomez! actually the only strong indication it isnt her is the kitten has long hair and i cant imagine why she would have goofy paws on her bed. but the exhaling smoke and pajamas? spot on.

10. 16Bit - Funhouse

the more songs i hear from 16Bit, the more their machine gun remix sounds like the calmest thing theyve done. who are these cunts and where do i send the checks?

11. Black Is Not A Colour - Dim Mak Can Suck This! ( La Musique D' Ordinateur Remix)

holy dick shit tit balls this fucker is nutty. so its already super-grindy chaotic electro, and then theres another part too. and theres totally an actual death metal gutteral in that other part. for reals. this is a beast.

12. Cookie Monsta - Ginger Pubes

yeah its fucking old news! i dont give a shit! i got pictures i want to use!

kill! them! aaaaaallllll!

13. Klaypex - Lights

noodly chaotic high register pop step. i can do this all day.

14. Pixies - Where Is My Mind (Wally Remix)

judging tentatively from the timelines, i think this came out right before the bassnectar one (rubadubdubbb uploaded it august 9 2009, i think. i dont know when bassnectar started playing his live, sometime that summer wasnt it? or was it the year before? what year is it now?). its not radically different, and i wouldnt really say one tops the other (because its not their fucking song to begin with, although this one seems...less wanky. its a far less-intrusive remix of a great song that really didnt need a dubstep remix to begin with), but i love the shit out of the original so any remix is pretty much another chance to hear it.

you know what? i fucking lied. i think this one tops the bassnectar version, which i never thought id say. it probably wouldnt be quite as fun live, but whatever.

15. Subscape - Artificial Dreamer

ein powerful wobble! two or three minutes too long though; it kinda just repeats one part for 7 fuckin minutes. but its a decent part, so:

16. JSaxton - Where's Jitset

really nice bass here, very dubby. does anyone recognize who's singing? and is there a song about weed that isnt fun as hell? i always feel like im missing out on something magical and life-affirming.

17. Enigma - 7 Deadly Dubs

one of those weird, dark, grindy songs that doesnt really sound like it would be played live or in a mix, even though im sure both have been done. its fucking bleak and kind of a mix of droney and garage-noisy and its got samples from se7en. and theres this fucking noise right at 2:58. that fucking noise! what else is it in?! oh god and then he stretches it out all skincrawly and terrifyinglike. this song is all over the place, like a slightly less weird eprom. im having trouble keeping track, but i wouldnt be surprised to discover there are 7 distinct chunks in this. or that this is just a sample of the whole, as suggested by the filename and ID3 tag. sais pas.

18. Shellshock - Volts

yusssss simple and rad DnB. this song is for drinking loud and jumping around and spilling shit, all over the goddamn place. heres some butts that i thought synced at first. they dont. i dont give the slightest of fucks.

19. F.O.O.L. - To Arms

super symphonic and kind of slow creepy war-electrostep. totally a valid genre.

jesus christ those bouncing asses are really annoying when im trying to type.

im going to scoot down to avoid them.

( Y )

anyway. their new EP is free, somewhere, and its all heavy symphonic electro stuff. like if nero hated fun. this song is fucking heavy as dicks. ELECTRONIC MUSIC IST KRIEG.

20. Chasing Shadows - Odyssey

BLEAAARRHOOWWW WWUUUUHHHHUNNNUHNUHHHHH (check it. im totally spot on)

MONOLITHIC RAAAAGE STOMP

21. Heartstrum - Keenan

really low grinder-bass house/techno, but not at all caustic. kind of quiet, relatively. plus a great sample that should have been longer, or maybe just the entire movie. this makes me want to douche douche douche my heart out.

also im losing focus and i need a drink. so IM GOING ON HIATUS.

I think your description of that song was pretty apt.

Also you've won over my brother with your Lights/Sarah Marshall combo.
