Skream - Skream!

A lot of people ask me, "Stonewall, what are you listening to nowadays that gets your dick hard? And I mean REALLY gets your dick hard."

Right now Skream does, but only in a music oriented, completely heterosexual way.  This cd dropped in 2006, when he was 20.  It's pretty dark and bassy as fuq.

ColdWorld - Melancholie² 2008

Winter is coming. Hatred, depression, and misanthropy are welling up in my heart. This is the perfect soundtrack.

One of the best depressive black metal albums ever released. It's cold, hopeless, and beautiful. One of my fondest memories in the past 5 years is walking around during a snowstorm at dusk listening to this. If you like DSBM and you aren't aware of this album, you are doing it wrong. Fix your mistake promptly.

Unholy Majesty - Demo 2011

More apocalyptic hardcore from thee prophets of Rot in Hell. Crushing demo. Record out on A389 soon.

THE WHITNEY HOUSTON COLLECTION

Don't care too much for her ballads... (except for maybe the ones with Kevin Costner in them.) rather the 90's synth-dance tunes. Here's a few! PLAY THESE MOTHERFUCKERS LOUD.

I'm sure everyone already has heard the Nero version and Knife Party remix, but this one is great too. :)

I hate that the tag is Nero - Crush on You and not tagged as The Jets, but whatever.

Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers - Teenage and Torture 2011

Do you like women who smoke cigarettes, are a little rude, probably spit a lot, and sound like they are really really cute? (doesn't really work for switched gender rolls). Then you will love this. Although, when I actually saw a picture of Shilpa Ray I felt extremely cheated and let down. Besides the point. Its raw, and full of spunk

What kind of bees make milk?......Boobies!!!!

Submotion Orchesta - Finest Hour (2011)

It claims to be dubstep, but it's too close to actual music for that to be true. Perhaps just jazz with some extra bass. Or just regular jazz?

Sentients - How the Sun Will Die EP 2011

because most days im pretty sure im still 16 years old, and trapped in a strange, inverse groundhog-day scenario; METALCORE.

even though i hated metalcore and breakdowns at 16, because i was tr00 and kVlt at all times (also there was some ska in there).

it's no veil of maya, and i dont think misha mansoor or tosin abasi are in it, but whatcanyado. i wish air guitar skills translated.

Explosions In The Sky - Live At KVRX 1999

i thought this was from WFLM a while ago, but the blogspot search function is notoriously retarded, so im not sure. i believe this is their first set, recorded july 4th, 1999. since i couldnt locate the original link, this is what i have. 6 songs, where many have 8, so im verifying that now (via this torrent). many of them became how strange, innocence, while some (#3 for starters) didnt make it anywhere.

either way, this is the mood im in. kind of stuck dreaming about starting over. not necessarily in 1999, but the further away the better. although im not sure if i would have wasted less time or a shit ton more.

yeaaahhhh get the torrent one, there are 8 songs. my inability to leave the house to see shows is fucking killing me. EITS was here september 13th, for the first time since the last time i saw them, and that show was goddamn revelatory.

link updated, this is all 8 songs:

Katy B - On A Mission 2011

turns out you can completely sidestep the whole 'compete with ellie goulding' thing by making dubstep to begin with. magnetic man shows up a lot, both explicitly and with benga producing.

this isnt the right tracklist for the link, but its close.

i cant use 'house' as a tag because dodd ruined it with his first post; it always shows up as 'House' now and, well...never compromise, even in the face of armageddon.

Old Silver Key - Tales of Wanderings 2011

members of alcest continue to do whatever the hell they feel like, members of drudkh continue to distance themselves from NSBM. the result sounds like a mix of amesoeurs and alcest, as expected, and is thus real purty.

itd be interesting to inject clair cassis into all the inbreeding. or mikko aspa. can you fucking imagine what the midway point between alcest and deathspell would sound like? alcest gets the intro and as soon as mikko plays a note the whole thing becomes fetid and sickening and desperate. man that sounds rad.

At The Throne Of Judgement - The Arcanum Order 2007

i miss these fuckers almost as much as light this city. like a veil of maya without the breakdown-reliant structure and a bit thrashier/more hints of NWOBHMery. twin guitar leads, twin vocal styles, fucking inspired songwriting...

it really is super catchy. like veil of maya and light this city, i am completely unable to forget any of the songs, solos, etc. it's retarded. and they are all like 14 years old. or look like it.

a giant is coming & the giant is going to kill you Cover Art

pulvery is all i had left of theirs from the 2009 demo, probably for the monster riff at the beginning. this version sounds a lot cleaner and better.

all of this is retard heavy. and pretty weird. the vocals are awesome, near the weedeater-level of raspy beardedness, and they write riffs that sound like a broken mediafire link no one can figure out.

Marina Rosenfeld - Plastic Materials 2009

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

AAAHAHHHRRRRRRNNNNNN

WWWWWWWWWWWWHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAAATTTT THEEE FUUUUUUUUCCCCCK

the midpoint between grouper and runhild gammelsæter. and basinski. and what frank poole must have been hearing as his oxygen emptied into space.

"In my imagination, Plastic Materials sounds like an strange autopsy where the deceased is part robot, part creature from another planet and each progressive incision opens new caverns of spiraling innards that are both structurally amazing and kind of freaky. There is even an ever present sterility of steel tables and clean instruments to the whole thing. The album is bizarre in the most fascinating way. Rosenfeld’s doesn’t actually use any knifes in the creation of her work, but still manages her fair share of cutting by the heavy use of turntables and sampled voices (both talking and singing out of tune) cut up with medical precision. In addition to the re-emerging vocals, Rosenfeld has crafted a moody sub-noise aesthetic that incorporates turntable tics and spasms along with other electronic mumbling which flow in and out of piano tinkering and other unidentifiable transmissions."

knifes? if there's a pitchfork review of this album, i dont want to fucking know about it.

Aidan Baker/thisquietarmy - A Picture of A Picture 2009

one of my favorite sleep albums. compared to say, sleep research facility, it is endlessly lively and nuanced. not nearly as much as aidan baker/tim hecker album, which sounds a bit like gentleman losers, but it stays very fluid within ambient drone music. the signature aidan baker washed-out tone + distortion shows up in each song, but it's all very gentle and...well, uplifting. i think i put some of these on a cd for my mom. actually no, i gave her carrizozo, but its a similar tone.

THAT'S RIGHT, MY MOM PRACTICALLY LISTENS TO NADJA

prior to this i guess they (baker + thisquietarmy) released 'orange', which i am trying to find now.

also this album apparently charted at #1 in montreal when it came out. where TQA is from, and where it was recorded, but still. also i had no idea that thisquietarmy is also parallel lines. i am really sick of endlessly productive drone dudes. and grouper. and marina rosenfeld (get ready). and any transsexual and endlessly productive drone artists i have forgotten.

0________________________________0

it's. sooooooooo. refreshing. if you turn it up to full volume, it's almost like seeing them play it live!

im just kidding. NOTHING IS LIKE SEEING THEM LIVE.

it sounds like they fucking just...lost an octave somewhere. they didnt (i dont think), but the production on this vs. songs of ill hope and omega drunk is...BASS NAOW! BASS BASS BASS CRUSHERY. its pretty magical, the listed comparison to admiral angry is semi-apt, more for production values than 'hey, they sound similar to admiral angry'.

anyway. don't let 'melodic' throw you off, its like 70-80% thrashful hardcore, and then there are just a couple parts that really, really stand out with super rad melodies. kinda sludgy at times too, with the bass just near-tremoloing some floppy downtuned note. really cohesive EP.

Tycho - Past Is Prologue 2006

speaking of nostalgia and perfect albums. i have so many memories of this cd now. like finding it on accident while trying to name my band tycho, and gomez tripping the first time in my car, and dreaming of california, and reading john varley books in my room at 6 am, and smoking with kevin and cory while mike watched through the glass door.

so anyway. this is so much more than trip hop. its like everything that you like about explosions in the sky crammed into the non-shitty portishead stuff and then shot through a synthesizer, bass guitar, and laptop and suddenly theres the best album ever. scott hansen promised me a follow up album in the summer of 07 though, and theres still no word on that. placate yourself by buying all the iso50 prints and gluing them to your face.

Wiht - The Harrowing Of The North 2011

uuuugh perfect length, like ancestors - neptune with fire. actually, a lot like ancestors but a bit heavier, what with the post metal bits in addition to the fuzzy sweeping stoner vistas. like capricorns. there's even a fucking regal keyboard outro. it's DOPE.

Taking influence thematically from the subjugation of the North of England by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, The Harrowing of the North tells the troubled history of doomsday-era Yorkshire: the king massacred its people and destroyed the land to ensure it held no economic or cultural worth and would remain under his subservient rule.

Amon Tobin - ISAM 2011

late to post because i used to worry about DMCAs. this fucker is on some level completely alone. monthly joints is certainly more palatable, but this album (from the start) had me twitching and humming of 'autech-step' to myself.

see him, please (10/18 or 19). even if it's already sold out. ignore the terror that is his voice (see video), and anticipate visuals that completely supersede bassnectar and big gigantic.

ingest DOI or 2CI and prepare to construct a city of dataflow. IODO-EVERYTHING.

the review quoted in the video:

http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/15519-isam/

i can't get enough of reading pitchfork reviews. it's like learning to speak and comprehend a foreign language for years, and then suddenly finding the language is split into 'normal' and 'who the fuck let you form sentences?! you are an abortion doctor for words.'

"Tobin used to be a dependable, dedicated craftsman, but he's intent on transitioning to full-on sonic artist. He has the ideas: ISAM's pieces keep wandering into unmarked industrial zones, evoking broken things and blight. But this is heavy, foreboding music; Tobin hasn't yet learned how to balance his robust sound-art impulses with footholds for his listeners. He'll get there-- he's frankly too talented not to-- but ISAM feels like a transitional album, for his fans if not for him."

i understand that i usually shit out sentences that flow like a vodka-soaked tampon, but...come on.

do you remember constructing grammatical sentence diagrams in middle school? the best part of that review is that a sentence diagram of the entire thing would look like a mandelbrot set.

Eyedea & Abilities - By The Throat 2009

like atmosphere and astronautalis (but fucking FAST) mashed, but very bleak, aggressive, and depressed (je pense).

it's flawless and perfectly arranged, fully thought-out and mixed, but it seems so...

throwaway to them. (and i have to stress that that's more lyrical than the actual tone of the album; the lyrics are phenomenal and their talent is undeniable. i love the shit out of this)

im projecting ("he's projecting now, from downtown!") for sure, but it just sounds like a production from people who just can't care about anything anymore. people who have just been weighted down to the point that the act of making music feels inadvertently sarcastic. i dunno, i imagine you can be really good at something and it can still lose its luster. and then he died from opiate toxicity.

i guess i attribute a lot of that sense to how prolific and guttural the bass guitar sounds throughout the album. he raps like christ, and the beats are great, and then it just sounds like a whacked out early-nirvana is sitting in the background fuzzing their way into oblivion.

Cloudland Canyons/Lichens - Exterminating Angel 2008

36's 30min song reminded me of my favorite 30 (31:48) minute song.

do you like likenz? the first 20 minutes are just...peaking ambient tides, and then it goes full-on philip glass. i used to try to sleep to this when it came out, but i ended up wayyyy too excited by what was happening.

enters the fray. most of his contribution seems...shaping and formative. but i havent heard other cloudland canyons, so im doing that now.

36 - Tape Series: Green 2011

holy dickfuck it's 36. with beats (sounding kind of like tycho fell asleep leaning on one padded tone), and noise, sounding like final crushed into a juicer. much, much more revelatory than tape series blue. more cohesive, more pointed...

i love that there's a 30 minute song, and that's only the start.

listen at full volume and STARE INTO THE ART

1. Nistarim
2. Bergensbanen (Part 1)
3. Bergensbanen (Part 2)
