Teardrop (Knight Riderz Remix) | Massive Attack I want to wake up to this song every day for the rest of forever, at dawn, in slow motion. Preferably it'd be sung to me by metal Bui and his faithful wolfdog.
Infinite-vs. Lee Bannon | Zumbi The glitch modulator is back!
Slow Drug (Max Ulis Remix) | PJ Harvey This is dubbbbb, but I can't help but think that maybe it could use a little STEP. No, NOTHING IS SACRED.
Boudicca (Telekinesis Remix) | Optiv DRÜM'NBEIJ
Far | Auriculaire This song is amazing in that keeps dramatically and flawlessly changing texture. Piano samples, live drum samples, eerie synths. The noises! So goooood.
DnB Ting (PockX Extended Edit) | Skrillex This song makes me want to do massive quantities of cocaine.
Raise Your Weapon (Sluggo & Nerd Rage Remix) | DeadMau5 Because there aren't enough versions of this fucking song... This one's definitely my favorite. It's got spunk! Spunkstep! Boom bap!

Vector Lovers
Really low-key IDM from Britain. I still don't understand or like the name of this genre, but damned if I don't love the genre itself. Vector Lovers has the ability to do a lot while keeping things fairly minimal, which lets him keep things about as peaceful as I've heard in IDM. This post has his first two albums, Vector Lovers and Capsule For One.

+HIRS+ - Dimebag 2011
the good news is that
update: this doesnt end with -step and there's no attempt to rhyme or establish flow. i hate to be the sole voice shitting out an opinion vs. the blog, but i am so fucking sick of what's been showing up, and i cant rely on deathspell to crush sonic boundaries at a rate that will sustain me. HOORRRRR HORRRRRR HORRRR BREEEE BREEEE BREEEEEEEEEE.
blastbeats = salve
if you are willing to argue with a song called 'gaytheism', i have no problem in beating you to death. just let me know, my address is pretty freely found.
my current interest is more related to 'worship' (which i cant even post), but i think they arent '+HIRS+'-related so WROOOOOOONG. this is like a purified wall of xbrainiax, but holy fucking dickfuckshitballs;

Leng Tch'e - Death By A Thousand Cuts 2002
christ i love these goofy (kind of...the lyrics enter a weird 'kill your parents' kind of realm pretty often) belgian fucks. cockporn sold me, but...cmon. if powerviolence is too serious, leng tch'e is waiting for you. every album is pretty much just perfect (par example, this one is prior to 'all hippies are dropouts' and 'fuck off coz i hate you all'). oh god and prior to 'crucial 4 life'.
every hard/grind-core album should take serious cues from this. this is like watching ceremony sweep aside pretentious hardcore.

AZ - Decade
So I figure what I post on here will be a mix between the endless goofy shit... and do I mean endless. and the occasional listenable gems. You decide.
Forget Kanye! This has been playing almost non stop since I replaced my hard drive, one of the more underrated MCs out there. AZ has a nimble style that never forgot about substance. It's like if you combined the hunger of a starved goat with the grace of a... jellyfish...and then taught it english. Then exposed it to a simmering New York salsa scene, where it would eventually learn to rap. Great flow and delivery. A best of album to get your feet wet...or submerge completely. but fuck, man. watch out for dem goat jellyfish!

New kid on the block...
I used to be able to name every nut that there was. And it used to drive my mother crazy, because she used to say, "Harlan Pepper, if you don't stop naming nuts," and the joke was that we lived in Pine Nut, and I think that's what put it in my mind at that point. So she would hear me in the other room, and she'd just start yelling. I'd say, "Peanut. Hazelnut. Cashew nut. Macadamia nut." That was the one that would send her into going crazy. She'd say, "Would you stop naming nuts!" And Hubert, my dog, used to be able to make the sound, he couldn't talk, but he'd go "rrrawr rrawr" and that sounded like Macadamia nut. Pine nut, which is a nut, but it's also the name of a town. Pistachio nut. Red pistachio nut. Natural, all natural white pistachio nut.
Greetings, and welcome to the hidden valley, newman's own, spelunking-journey into the horrifying chasm that is my music library. YE BE WARNED
Coconut. Almond nut. Babylonian cashew nut.

The Weeknd - House of Balloons (2011) and Thursday (2011)
I've developed a soft spot for r&b recently, and The Weeknd is a recent discovery with which I'm rapidly becoming obsessed. Not only does this guy have the most seductively soulful voice, but he's backed by really edgy electronic instrumentals. Occasionally glitchy (see: "Rolling Stone" off Thursday), some dubstep thrown in (see: "High for This" off House of Balloons). The lyrics aren't incredibly profound... but his delivery more than compensates. Expect to hear more about him in the next year, he's due to release another mixtape any time now, and Drake will be doing some heavy promoting. I suspect they bonded over mutual Canadianisms fuck.

Pelican - EP 2001
there's a reason that, if this is your band's first release, a lot of people sit up and listen.
that reason is mammoth. it is the most gloriously, full body-headbangable song there is. it is also one of the most concise and pure songs there is. nothing is wasted, there's about a riff and a half, and maybe 8 seconds of a sleep-like part where the bass rises to prominence and sluggishly bends to the harmony note through the guitar wall. mammoth is the pinnacle of good-day music. the opening kind of questions what tone the song will crush it's way into, and then it repeats, but with a soaring, delayed upper layer (where suddenly the entire tone shifts into sunlight), and then IT HAPPENS. there is no way to listen to mammoth quietly.
if i know you, and you listen to this today (friday), and somehow collect evidence that you listened to it today, i will give you a dollar. but you will probably be in such a glorious, powerful good mood that you will refuse to accept it BECAUSE YOU ARE HEADBANGING SO FUCKING HARD. no one doesnt enjoy mammoth.
also i have an absurd affinity for The Woods, because the second time i saw them play, they ended with a 20 minute version that just ground itself into oblivion as the last riff looped and looped until no one was playing anymore and they walked offstage.
aaaand, it never hurts to mention that the other two songs are perfect. this ep is like hearing EITS for the first time. it is just awe-inspiring and revelatory. a harbinger of things to come.

Tim Hecker - Harmony In Ultraviolet 2006
presented without comment for now, because i am just so, so fucked up.
actually fucked up is extremely relative, and in this situation not at all reflective of my ability to type or think. it's tim hecker, it came out before imaginary country (2008) and right before the split with aidan baker (2007). there is almost no way i can describe the sound of this album more efficiently.
if you want to hear an ungainly, even more thesaurus-raping opinion:
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/9497-harmony-in-ultraviolet/
i wonder what kind of degree you need to write a pitchfork review. i should have gotten one of those. do they consider "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" a legitimate genre? do the people making genres work there?

Another thing on a long list that I am a hopeless sucker for is uptempo swing. While this does have some programmed and sampled beats and some clear audio work done to it, it makes me miss being taller than women so I could dance with them, and then leave them in the gutter. It also makes me miss when women were lighter than me, and drumming. whatever. I love this album a ton and I've only had it for a little bit. I'm sure that the novelty will ware off soonish, but, oh well.

Rude Dudes - Risque Songs From the 30's
good news. i have now posted the filthiest thing on here. prepare for a metaphor-dense assault that would put...i dont know, based god? to shame. its raunchy. it's almost offensive, just for how joyously blatant and absurd it is. there is nothing left to the imagination. suffice to say, i found this while trying to find decent compilations of popular music from the 20's through 40's, which is fucking ridiculously difficult. so enjoy the sexy, lecherous windfall.

Locus Solus
i realized i was overreaching in my pursuits. the fallout is about 500 to 600 dubstep songs completely distorting the dimensions of my library.
so here are 7 songs, and no more than 7 songs, that i dont hate.
also this is a great way to unload GIFs that wont show up on TJs facebook when the assorted albums come. and i just realized i have 7 skate GIFs loaded, so fuck you all.
1. Oasis - Wonderwall (Figure Drumstep)
i used to listen to this fucker on the radio when it came out, and the original still provides the entire backbone of this song (thank god), because figure really doesnt do a goddamn thing to it. it sounds lovely and ive probably listened to it 20 times since wearezero posted it.
2. Katy B - Katy On A Mission (Helicopter Showdown)
i wonder what helicopter showdown would describe their sound as. melochaostep? chaodicstep? either way, this song doesnt have 'heavy on the hip motherfucker, come get some'.
3. Major Lazer - Never Good Enough (Killabits)
GAAAWWD DAYUM if you recall the retarded, forever-fucked manner in which i dance, imagine me doing that every morning, drink in hand, in my bathroom. because its REAL MOTHERFUCKER.
4. Russo - Bad Tonight (Shock One)
i dont say this a lot, but i would love for the lyrics to come back again in the second half of the song. it sounds fucking phenomenal; the mix of the poppy-kinda lyrics with a really sharp, bassy break.
5. Porter Robinson - Spitfire (Kill The Noise)
because i, for one, refuse to entrust the future of electrohouse&bass to excision.
6. Diukvil - Ritty (Ekinof solo)
ive tried to include this in several gift tapes but its never worked. i think. and this is replacing a distorted minds & DJ hazard song that got dull. really cool breaks.
7. Tay Dizm - Beam Me Up (Butch Clancy)
eeaaayyyuh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-

because i, for one, refuse to entrust the future of electrohouse&bass to excision.
6. Diukvil - Ritty (Ekinof solo)
ive tried to include this in several gift tapes but its never worked. i think. and this is replacing a distorted minds & DJ hazard song that got dull. really cool breaks.
7. Tay Dizm - Beam Me Up (Butch Clancy)
eeaaayyyuh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-ar-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-oye-
8. Robyn - Dancehall Queen (Dillon Francis)
fuck you, theres more than 7. i have woken up several times singing this song. it should be a goddamn war crime to make something this catchy. also the bass is incredible in a car, the diplo version is lame, and dillon francis delaying the chorus until an afterthought at the end is SO. EFFECTIVE. this is my favorite version.

Breakage - Callahan/Untitled 2008
it's really unfortunate i got this at the same time as kito - cold, because cold is better than everything and just kind of overshadowed 'untitled'. but the two are similar, if you like that spacier sound. breakage is the shit.

The Gentleman Losers - Dustland 2009
apparently this reached a lot more people than i thought it did. two finnish brothers. this isnt the proper cover, i guess, but i like it more.
descriptions are hard. it has just...this fucking sickening washed-out tone (and in the way i mean it, that is an extremely high compliment) that sounds like earth - hex as made by amphetamines and keyboards (not that it even remotely sounds like amphetamines or keyboards, but it occupies a space near to hex but chunky, quicker, and less riff-based). its probably drone under a lot of umbrellas, but very segmented, like tim hecker before he started making songs with 'part 1, 2, 3' (additional research suggests that there was never a tim hecker that didnt segment songs). only quieter than tim hecker. more like a soundtrack, but to what i cant exactly say...
the song that pinpointed the sound for me was midnight of the garden trees. very tor lundvall, but without the city, and requisite night sound. it could be anywhere. it's a fucking incredible sleeping album, although just that alone makes it shoot up through the ranks for me.
dustland is a great title, but it's much more lush than you might imagine. it's too fluid, even with the pronounced lack of continuation between tracks that is common with this sound (which is why i threw in 'post-rock'), and much too powerful, to just be dust.

Hecq - Avenger 2011
It's kinda different, heavy as dicks, and some of the tracks love to play with the timing of the LFO. The intros may be a little lengthy, but they make the drop a little sweeter. If you liked Matta, check this one out.
Get on it.

not you. or you. other max. the one who is going to accost seguin on friday.
both are neotokyo-esque, and im not sure what your rate of sonic consumption is, so:
String Theory - Radiovalerian 2004
a bit quieter and more IDM than neotokyo.

Wisp - The Shimmering Hour 2009
this could pretty much replace the OST. but shouldnt.

Righteous Acid - Mellow Doses 2011
my god. idiot's guide tells it better, as usual, and i know no one reading this has listened to a single sun araw song, but...
you know how your grandfathers really enjoy music that seems slightly unstuck in time when you hear it now (obviously, but more kind of the sense that you cant help but filling in a world you couldnt have known with your own little projections)? this is like...grandfather music being blasted from a house a few hundred yards down the beach. if your grandfathers grew up in the 50's and 70's in a nearly parallel universe. also your grandfathers really liked sun araw.
it reminds me of run DMT (the other run DMT, not the boring one) in that each of the two sides are kind of a smattering of vaguely incoherent but cohesive emissions.
also it sounds like a mellow dose of righteous acid. since you wont listen to it anyway, im going to use even more words (from idiots guide and sun ark) to make this post longer so it will be frustrating when you furiously try to scroll past it.
"Fans of Sun Araw will recognise a certain jaded/faded humming of psychedelia... a psychedelic sound that is undeniable but curiously monochromatic; as if somewhere, elsewhere, there's a really grooovy party going on but you're sitting in a room, headstuffed with Cumin and Salvia Divinorum imagining what it might feel like to be invited to that party.
And:
swept endless tumbling
jerky guitar trail offs
rhythms made out of the mis-hits from a 70s Cow Punching competition
others discarded from Maximquaye's dark hours on two track
tracks that seem like afterthoughts and come-downs
fidelity slips
broken-wheeled wagons, circling in the snow
cannibals w/cannabis"
and
""Stately Thai boogie, swaying and sealed in Bakersfield sun. Righeous Acid is Alex Sarad, unleashing this his first c30 of deeply mantric and contemplative fretboard meditations with a depth of soul that vacillates from bleached temple rhythms to bayou sweat in an instant. Sensitive and glowing from within." - Sun Ark "
beware that im using psychdrone kind of solely to perpetuate this sound that i have mischaracterised but dont want to correct. its not really drone. but it is fun and funky and it will emerge from the waves to make your brain shit and then dance. its acid music.
update: im not sure exactly what's happening, but listening to this really loud with headphones seems to hint at an entirely different layer of sounds sitting just at the borders of the music, as though its a highly digitized recording of a scattered playback from a record player. there are some awkward snaps and glitches and a bass layer that seems like it existed in the original songs and survived the production effects that altered the upper layers into something distant. like a shadow of feedback.
i may be missing it entirely.

LSD - FB Mix 2010
AAAHHHHHHHH WHAT THE FUUUUUUCK
no tracklist anywhere, it seems, just like the last mix from banguage. i have never heard any of these fucking songs, except the malt liquor remix. its KVLT AND GR1M AND TR00. and its goddamn insane. and interesting. and no messinian! my god it's the triple threat.
also it has a daily supply of crunchy yaii yai yaiiiiiiii's in it. and its short, which is pretty desirable for anyone that's not bassnectar. although i wouldnt mind too much if this was twice as long. it has the most graceful intro to a mix i think ive heard yet.
fucking hell this makes me hungry for a vial.
