ColdWorld - Melancholie² 2008

Winter is coming. Hatred, depression, and misanthropy are welling up in my heart. This is the perfect soundtrack.

One of the best depressive black metal albums ever released. It's cold, hopeless, and beautiful. One of my fondest memories in the past 5 years is walking around during a snowstorm at dusk listening to this. If you like DSBM and you aren't aware of this album, you are doing it wrong. Fix your mistake promptly.

Nyktalgia - S/T 2004

Because I just remembered I've never put it up, and I'm pretty much done with Black Metal November, this is first from the impending list to be posted. This is one of the best black metal albums ever. The songwriting is amazing and very melodic, the songs are long which allow them to actually go places and progress and change tempo and riff like a billion times, the vocals are something I cannot imagine ever coming out of a human being, the levels of each instrument are perfect, the drumming is flawless, and it makes you want to die.

4 minutes44seconds into Exitus Letalis is the most depressing and/or horrifying part of any song I have ever heard. The drums stop and he just starts fucking shrieking. I have had many, many strange moments in my life with that playing in the background.

Xasthur/Leviathan - Split 2004

Not enough evil on this blog lately, and it's almost winter/currently is fall, so this is unacceptable.

This is one of the best splits ever, in my opinion. You've got two of the founders of the USBM depressive, one man Black Metal genre on one album making some of the most sorrowful, sad, and beautiful music ever to be put out. Xasthur's side has a couple of repeat songs (which is the norm for him) that make the other versions seem unnecessary. Leviathan's 3 tracks are all new to the album and are equally as great as Xasthur's side. Sounds a lot different from Wrest's other tunes, but it's different in a very good way.

All together, you've got about an hour of the most bleak Black Metal the US has to offer right below. I suggest you get to listenin' and sitting alone in the dark feeling awful about everything, forever.
