Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972 2011

i wish someone else was listening to this stuff. tim hecker is a lot like 36 or the less haunting ben frost or jasper TX, but solidly electronic pulses and waves and sheer tidal loops. lots of layers, lots of different keys and timbres and such sliding around laterally on top of each other.

it's a little different from an imaginary country, although the two albums morph into one another pretty seamlessly, much in the way 36 - hollow becomes memories in widescreen.

listen to more drone you fucks.

update: haHA! ben frost is in there somewhere!

Belong - Common Era 2011

certainly appropriate to post at 4:38am under a blacklight. sounds like muted crystal castles, or old bands that i should know and be into but im not (case in point: i would like to say there are bits of joy division in there, but ive never really gotten into joy division, although i have seen control 3 times. so i will not say this, so jordan doesnt show up and start wiggling his flaccid elitist OLD MUSIC DICK AT ME) . songs like "a walk" remind me of being in middle school and listening to rapture and paradise lost and anathema and deciding that i always want to live in a city where it rains and i can see my breath. and it reminds me of hearing the albums velvet cacoon stole and deciding the pacific northwest was for me. shades of salem, but very quiet and more fluid shades. salem covering sleep research facility songs.

regardless, it's pretty sad, but a little too active to sleep to. really nice use of vocals.

if you like this, i highly recommend alcoholism.

Deafheaven - Roads to Judah 2011

now on deathwish, and fuck it's good. sounds like melo-WITTR, or a combination of the newest and oldest altar of plagues (not white tomb) in that its...well...pretty much post rock with blastbeats and some subdued-ish vocals. its really phenomenal. up there with the demo and altar of plagues.

also: i always forget about melodic black metal until i listen to it, but the sheer desperation in the tone completely destroys me. i get this grimace on my face and really wide eyes and creepy shit and i imagine i can feel my body collapsing in real time and i feel so rushed; like everything i have ever done has been a complete waste of time.

i dont know. i fucking love that desperation though. its the best way i can describe it. the pissed melodic suicidal hardcore doesnt even come close. deathspell touches it sometimes when they throw in one of their ludicrous melodies, but generally its these blastbeat-y long songs that toy with simple delayed melodic progressions that do it. (first half of tunnel of trees, most WITTR). it's when the song doesnt slow for a really long time and you adapt to hearing the blastbeat, so the only thing changing is the tremolo chord and it kind of enters this drone-state, where despite the rampant physical kinetics of the song, not a whole lot changes from beat to beat. then when it stops you realize again that it had been furious picking and drumming and suddenly there is this colossal void.

so....yeah. i like that.

Until Your Heart Stops - Errors 2011

holy dicks this is like if fucked up wasnt boring. plus the cover has triangles! FUCKING TRIANGLES! HOLY FUCK I FUCKING LOVE TRIANGLES!

anyway, its really catchy and fast and screamy and diverse and shit. got gang vocals, good normal vocals, varied songs, etc. really good. surprisingly good. not as out there as sex positions though, je pense. ID3 tags lacking artist and album, so be forewarned about that. also the entire thing is 17.3MB, so what are you going to do, not get it? bullshit.

Sunshine OST 2007

so ive seen this movie about 8 times since 2007, and never with anyone else. this is prudent, because i get really, really choked up at a shit ton of different points, including: capa's last message home, the transit of mercury (WHY IS HARVEY STARING AT THE GROUND?), "kaneda...what do you see?!", capa testing the bomb, "searle...we're leaving now...", payload delivery, etc.

john murphys soundtrack is entirely to blame. its what cliff martinez' soundtrack for solaris should have been, but i suppose solaris should have been more like sunshine too, so that cant be his fault.

also i would fellate danny boyle for a number of moments in a number of movies, but "icarus....who is the fifth crewmember?" is fucking terrifying and awesome and i love that goddamn part.

at the end of time, a moment will come when just one man remains. then the moment will pass, and man will be gone. there will be nothing to show that we were ever here, but stardust. the last man, alone with god. am i that man?

Capsule - "Neuralize So Numb" 2011

New song from Capsule's upcoming album "No Ghost." Really, really good. Less yelling, just as crazy. Almost sounds like Torche on speed. I love this band and I am so excited this album.

Read about it and listen here:

DJ Cappel & Smitty - Blue Eyes Meets Bed Stuy (2005)

Notorious BIG and Frank Sinatra.

Remember how The Grey Album (Jay-Z and The Beatles) sucked?

Yeah, well this doesn't.

Singles - ongoing

Reviews, as always, will be GIF based. thanks include hannah, wedanseinfrace, barney vs the dinosaur, rubabdubdub, smoothest gooch, etc.

1. Break Science - Zion Station

christ the intro doesnt really tell you what to expect. the bass is a WALL. ive been queuing up right when the intro ends and he says like 3 things then it goes "mansion-"BWAAAA "ZION STATION" WHUH WHUH WHUH WHUH, WHUHUHUHUHUH!" and then whenever i walk past someone i turn it up real loud and mash play and it destroys my headphones. but thats just me.

2. Amtrac - Morning

one day im going to wake up and my morning will sound like this song and i will be all like:

also if he had named this song "mroing", i would have shit myself. if you know what im talking about, then you know what im talking about.

3. Tinie Tempah ft. Ellie Goulding - Wonderman (Bare Noize Remix)

ahhhh the first half is great. im tempted to go see ellie goulding 'cause shes totes coming to boulder, but i dont think im going to do that. either way, bare noize. its choppy and AWESOME and, for some unfortunate reason, only 3.9MB. so. anyway, my thoughts:

4. Katy Perry - E.T. (Noisia)

I really wish Noisia would tour my face. Forever.

5. Antiserum - Nazca (w/ Violetness)

This GIF syncs way, way better than it should.

6. Cruel Cassette - Lion

let the weird main keyboard riff MELT INTO YOUR GODDAMN SPINE.

7. Dr. Philth - Electro Wank

Nate's favorite guidance counselor. At this point I'm just filling space before I get to KOAN.

8. Die & Interface - Bright Lights (Rockers)

Hey, remember the Fillowship Winter 2011 mix? I dont either.

9. KOAN SOUND - JUMPSUIT ADVENTURES

LOL HOPE I DONT SPOIL THE MIX. WHAT IS THIS FUCKING SONG MADE OF.

10. Propa Tingz - Babylon's Scared (16Bit)

Had this one for awhile, but holy shit. I love it better than KOAN. This is one of the coolest uses of what the fucking shit noise I have ever heard. Its almost illegal to call it a fucking remix; it destroys the original completely.

11. Redial - Venom (The Plesk)

Just got this. It mean.

12. Minnesota - Sun Burst

Just got this too. I would do the following to this song, but I'm not cute (although it kind of looks like candace, and i think i am at least that cute ://///) and seriously, I can't fucking wink to save my life. I blame my father. And alcohol. Regardless, Minnesota is gettin better.

also the more it loops, the less cute it is. like, way, way less cute. shit bro. COMPENSATION.

L O V E - Y O U

please, please someone get that.

13. Claire Maguire - Ain't Nobody (Breakage)

HOLY FUCKING DICK SHIT BALLS CUNT FUCK I FOUND IT ON ACCIDENT. This was the single best part of the 2 hour Nero mix. It's a lot better mashed into I Can't Stop, but christdicks I love how this song is.

dont fank me, fank mafor foot fie!

as long as you are getting me from before, continue to get me now please.

14. Mutt - Kush Talk

id just say it was raw. classy, classy shit. i dont know what i would do if anyone ever, ever played pretty dNb live. i would probably run buy a drink and then dance real small-like in a narrow area and close my eyes and fag all over everyone in a 20 foot radius. FYI.

15. Koan Sound - Zappa Bomb Squad

Okay. I was listening to this in my car a while ago, and the fucking sound at 1:13 (the ungodly flat diarrhea of a sonic aneurysm that is only like 3 notes) coursed through my car in such a way that 3 discrete portions of my spine collapsed in succession and i almost crashed. that sound is FUCKED. UP. in a solid car stereo.

16. Altimeter - Astronought

i scrolled my way back to the era at which i last made a singles post and this was right after. this song is nice. real nice. good for roadtrips. someone complained somewhere (maybe youtube?) that this song/(remix) took too many lyrics of the original, but seriously, the original fucking blew, and if this one had any fewer lyrics boosted, it wouldnt fucking work. its goddamn great as it is.

17. Shane Shu - Push Me To The Ground (Dem Slackers)

i love the staggered guitar bits in this electro pop fucker. and you will hate it.

18. Tantrum Desire - Body Shot

Im kind of just fucking with you all at this point. I heard this and i was all "HOW DO I KNOW THIS MELODY". 20 seconds of soul searching yielded sherlock holmes, at which point the song gave it away. hooray for me billy, HOORAY FOR ME! (please get that one too.)

nice fuzzy boots, you colossal fat bitch. "how was bassnectar?" LOL I DONT KNOW I WAS IN A SHITTY ROOM IN THE BACK DRIIIIIIIIIiIiIiIiInNnNkKkKing LOl.
