Oh man. This and the coldstep Part (5) are the reasons all of this is happening. Black metal 4 lyfe.
The beginning was originally First Prayer, but if you only get one DsO song to throw in a mix, especially an all black metal mix, First Prayer just feels like a waste. So instead of any kind of introduction, this fucker starts with the most rageful song and steadily collapses into Winterglow at the end. I love Kenose, but III stands completely alone from I and II. I have a bunch of "It fucking sounds like..." options but none of them do it justice, and most of them involve diseased monks self-immolating, and all of them trail off midway through because I use hyperbolic language too often to make it count here. III is terrifying and perfect and the pinnacle of black metal. The beginning is SO FAST: if you just time it by the guitar, it's still going 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2 and ignoring the drums.. And then that fucking terror groove at 6:59. Christ. DsO is the best, and this is one of their best.
New taake! "I hope we have the coldest winter ever." And banjo! I was completely surprised by this entire album. It's fluid and endlessly varied and interesting, without sounding like prog. Also phenomenal drumming, a bass that seemingly only shows up due to intentional production shifts, great melodicism (kinda folky, but without sounding like folk). This fucker is wonderful.
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-SSSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Ive talked some shit about Enslaved before (saw em live with dark funeral i think. my first mad dog!), and I maintain that they get excessively wanky far too often, but Isa is the title track of a prog BM album and its like 3.5 minutes long and super catchy. Also it sounds great with Drudkh's UBERKRANIAN FOLK ARMY.
Just got coldworld via brett, and figured they auto-won a slot in here.
[this is the part where I stopped writing altogether]
