Toots & The Maytals - Anthology 1964-2000 2001

Never have a bad day again. Ever.

I found this after watching This Is England (or British History X, with lesser actors (except joe gilgun!) but a better soundtrack). And in between wanting to die and realizing I had just heard The Smiths for the first time, I found that pretty much the only way to procure the 54 46 single is by downloading the entire anthology (4shared is now signup only? or it was last night. and mediafire is pretty unreliable. but these work).

Tree Of Sores - A Cry Of Despair EP 2012

so the album followed by the 30 minute song EP made me think of admiral angry. i dont know what it is about 30 minute songs, but i dont remember them too well. i mean, i only know dopesmoker via jerusalem.

but this, moreso than AA's, was really pretty (well...mellifluous) and sounded like a more efficient and sensible version of the album that preceded it. the vocals show up so little as to be nonexistant, and the riffs evolve like SFFS's do. it's not really one song, anyway, there are significant pauses and shifts and stuff...

WHAT THE FUCK IS THE BAND I AM THINKING OF

rosetta without matt weed. falling into if they had kept at it. the production sounds like DSBM, but all of it sounds familiar somehow. its the fucking hollow twang on the guitar tone.

i dont know, if you were scrolling around and recognized the name 'tree of sores', listen to it. if you didnt, listen to it. it's awesome. and super bleak.

For Fax Mail - Beasten to Death Mix 2012

So I was worried about making this one, since I don't typically listen to a lot of trip/glitch/inst. hop.

But apparently I do, or at least now I think I do. I don't know what you were hoping for, but at least my beets grow STRONG.

I estimate you have maaaaybe a third or fewer of these already, but I am having a stupid amount of fun listening to the playlist now so don't even worry about it.

Conan - Monnos 2012

ohhhhhh mmmaaaaannnnn. they made me delete horseback battle hammer a long time ago, and i dont have their split with slomatics (which has the best cover art of any album i have ever seen ever), but theyre still playing in like F or F# or something. so...

it's conan.

are they playing down in G? i read it once. floor/torche's (and maybe slabdragger's too?) 'z-tuning'/bomb-tuning was down to A, i think the first conan stuff was on G. i have no idea. it's stupid low.

Irena a Vojtěch Havlovi - Hudba Ticha 1992

something about this sounded like music for airports mixed with sakamoto. but listen to what happens at 10:23 in sametova, when the loop/clipping starts. i dont know if it was meant to be subtle, but it's not, at all. i dont even know why the change is there, because they easily could have continued noodling mellifluously, but good god that pulse is everything. i cant even think, and typing is way too loud now.

Mgła - With Hearts Toward None 2012

the riffs and drumming and vocals are all really, really reminiscent of altar of plagues - sol, but with something a lot denser driving it. it's very pretty.

there's something else there too that I can't pinpoint. sooommmeeething, DSBMy. manetheren-y. closer to altars of plague than nyktalgia but hints of both and more active and melodic than either.

LOLs

So I found a bunch of links for stand up albums because no one really stepped up to the plate.

Actually one link.

http://comedyalbum.blogspot.com/2012/02/blog-index.html

The blog is already defunct but most of the links are active. I grabbed 16 albums in one fell swoop, but am just starting on them now, so I don't have recommendations yet.

I'm including another .gif because what's left of ProsBro isn't loading slow enough for my tastes yet.

So far:

Doug Benson - Hypocritical Oaf 2010 - decent. kind of slow.

Doug Benson - Potty Mouth 2011 - much better.

Patton Oswalt - Greatest Hour 2011 - fucking fantastic.

Louis CK - Hilarious 2010 - really good, but hard-ish to listen to repeatedly, more so than finest hour.

Mitch Hedburg - all - impossible to listen to repeatedly. sorry larsson.

Doug Stanhope - Oslo: Burning The Bridge To Nowhere 2011 - awkwardly hilarious. norwegians seem a strange choice of audience. super bleak and rageful and, well. doug stanhope.

Greg Giraldo - Midlife Vices 2009 - yo greg, your cholesterol is high, son! i quite enjoyed this one.

Patton Oswalt - My Weakness Is Strong 2009 - take you down to uncle touchy's naked puzzle basement. patton oswalt is my favorite.

Louis CK - Chewed Up 2008 - very, very similar to hilarious, in the best way imaginable. it would probably be a ridiculous amount of fun to play them back to back, but i got shit to do.

Marc Maron - This Has To Be Funny 2011 - this one is pretty great. he sounds like a far more neurotic and introverted lewis black, and not just because theyre both jewish. or maybe just...lewis black 15 years younger? no, i was right the first time. i love his voice.

Brian Posehn - Fart and Wiener Jokes 2010 - love this guy. dont totally recall all of listening to it last night, will have to redo the second half. SSLLLLAAAYYYEEERRRRRRRR!

Amy Schumer - Cutting 2011 - oh man there is one dude laughing his tits off at every joke that is making everything so much better. she's really funny though. and it's at the denver comedy club, apparently. and the last joke is glorious.

Mike Birbiglia - Sleepwalk With Me 2011 - meeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Todd Barry - From Heaven 2008 - im big on deadpan. plus the ridiculous meandering way in which his jokes emerge.

Doug Stanhope - From Across The Street 2009 - you ruined gay porn! i would tenuously compare my sense of humor to doug stanhope's here, but after kyle comparing himself to david cross...nothing makes sense anymore and i hate shit.

missed it. back to work.

Caseracer - Caseracer (2012)
