Balam Acab - Wander/Wonder 2011

see birds was better, this one's all warm keys and shit. it lacks a 'regret making mistakes'. i fucking hate the chipmunk vocals, and i have no idea why they are so prevalent in this shit. await has the wet clap sound though, only its lapping waves and it just sounds like the eskmo wet clap at 30% speed.

i dont know. im in a bad mood. ill try again when i havent just finished farewell to arms. the kids down the street are learning to kickflip, and i forgot how much i love that sound.

Ramparts - Whiteboys Love the Blues (2007)

From revhq.com: Oakland, CA's Ramparts feature former members of All Bets Off and Current members of Ceremony and play their own unique blend of punk and psychedelic '70s rock that at times speeds up to a furious pace, and slows down to showcase some serious riffs.

I just know it's the guy (Sammy Winston) that does all the spoken word tracks on All Teeth's Young Love EP and Ceremony's guitarist (Anthony Anzaldo?) Still downloading, have yet to listen.

Tree of Sores - S/T 2011

liiiike....oof. rosetta or mouth of the architect without the post rock? kylesa playing while laying on the floor?

holy shit ive got it: dark castle covering sollubi. its slow and the instruments are lush, but the entire experience is relentless and hollow (in the delay- and reverb-related emotional sense) and desperate and it shifts in and out of being melodic. as intended, hopefully.

masterful pill abuse sludge. or maybe im projecting myself onto their fantastic fucking tone.

fucking dick shit listen to 3:20+ in sandford. actually listen to the whole song to make that part even more retardedly insanely awesome.

even the intro is awesome. it has that slow bass slide that sounds like the one where you mash the base of your palm down on the note and grind down the neck. the one thats not so good for the guitar, but it sounds cool as shit.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - Love is a Stream 2010

from WFLM. and despite sounding like jordan wrote it, the caption over there uses the word 'shimmering' first, which is pretty apt.

"Shimmering, unrelenting, cosmic, blistering, powerful, soothing, hypnotic, dreamlike, pure and loving noise and feedback with beautiful melodies undulating under the surface. This is love like standing too close to the sun."

it sounds like...daytime tim hecker (listen to white dwarf butterfly, then listen to tim hecker - a stop at the chord cascades, or sea of pulses). actually it kind of sounds like the daytime version of the tim hecker/aidan baker album, because there is some guitar crunch low in a couple songs (like the first one). anyway, if you like tim hecker or aidan baker or port royal's flares, but are in a good mood and enjoy digestible music, here.

also the end of the last song kinda sounds like the sunshine OST when capa tests the bomb.

JAY Z & Kanye West - Watch the Throne (2011)

Gave it one listen through. More stuff like My Beautiful Dark....blahblahblah. The album opens and closes with Frank Ocean features, I didn't expect that.

Revision: Not so much like MBDTF, it's less thematic and less sayad. The songs are mostly about Jay and Ye bein' baller and not past their peak. They rap over Flux Pavillion's 'I Can't Stop' on 'Who Gon Stop Me'. So far my favorite song is 'Niggas In Paris' and my favorite line is 'Doctor said I'm the illest because I'm suffering from realness'. Also here's their video for the song Otis directed by Spike Jonze:

Watch the Throne:
01 No Church in the Wild (ft. Frank Ocean)
02 Lift Off (ft. Beyoncé)
03 Niggas in Paris
04 Otis (ft. Otis Redding)
05 Gotta Have It
06 New Day
07 Prime Time
08 Who Gon Stop Me
09 Murder to Excellence
10 Welcome to the Jungle
11 Sweet Baby Jesus (ft. Frank Ocean)
12 Why I Love You (ft. Mr Hudson)

Bonus tracks:

13 Illest Motherfucker Alive
14 H*A*M
15 That's My Bitch
16 The Joy (ft. Curtis Mayfield)

Decided I'd start providing pay for links because I like extending that courtesy, not because these two particular artists need more money.

Pensées Nocturnes - Ceci Est De La Musique 2011

one of the weirder things ive heard. i dont remember if they...he is LLN or not. MA says no. if you like your hour long songs with occassional oboe, cuckoo-clock noises, blastbeats, and ecclesiastic moaning, here you go. i think he manages to include every instrument ever.

cover art does a pretty apt job. its impressive as hell. the transitions between sounding like agalloch, nyktalgia, and a cathedral with a demented circus in it arent exactly fluid, but its an hour long. it can afford to be spacious. i wonder if there's like...sheet music for it. like 'oh yes, sebastian, i was hoping for more emotion from the 4-second saxophone noodle at 23.6 minutes. can we take it again from measure 473? and-a-one, and-a-two-'. theres just...SHIT HAPPENING EVERYWHERE. and then theres breathy symphonic interludes, which are actually really well done, and then suddenly *strings exit, include the sound of people cheering, cuckoo clock noise, blastbeat, strings reenter, guitar...enter piano, howling vocals, fermata, timpani roll, enter pipe organ, begin next section*. like at 41:30. where did this come from?! its like a crash master course in being really fucking good at music.

remember in the ocean - precambrian how they would just be like NOW HERES A RIFF WITH XYLOPHONE OVER IT? its like that, constantly, in smaller chunks, for 55 minutes. its the opposite of boring, in the way that french black metal usually is.
