it's an actual mix this time. which means i started over 2 months ago and the more time i spent on it, the harder it got. it's just like hydrogen line in that regard, so some bits i like, most bits i hate, none of it is really mine, and it has been entirely cobbled together within the last few days as i got desperate and nervous.
most of my time was spent overthinking this stupid exercise and it just doesnt matter. the order of songs is always the most important part but then they start to organize on their own and drift away into new and separate threads, and trying to corral them seems offensive. i imagine this would be a lot easier if these songs had drops and wibbly womps and BPMs and didnt...start to leak.
i remixed a shitty 128k youtube rip of a remix of crystal castles - transgender and my laptop coughed a little at the intro and instead of trying to fix it i just went 'well gr8 now it's tr00 and sounds like a cd skipping just like they wouldve wanted' and farted that guy out, which sums the whole thing up.
i had never even heard 'trespassers w' until a few nights ago, but then i read the lyrics and was all liek 'lol ya dats sad enuff'. in fact most of these are new-ish (except ASMZ and jesu); i tried to aim for only things ive heard since this time last year. also i stacked some very sparse songs in the middle, which, while they sound pretty great together, the transitions are basically just waiting for the tones from one to finally die so the next can ooze forwards which is pretty lazy mixmaking. but whatever, yr lucky, i couldve tried to cover 'movie (never made)' as was my original plan. or put theory of machines at the end again.
you know what? fuck you, theory of machines is the best goddamn song i have ever heard and im gonna throw at least part of it in. also i pitch-shifted we all faulter. for NO. REASON. AT. ALL.
i love these songs. a lot. i have listened to all of them 2 or 3 times a night in the course of trying to make a mix over making a playlist, and they never dulled.
at least it's short-ish. blog's not coming back.
